The Bridge on the Drina

The bridge on the Drina, a novel by our Nobel Prize winning author Ivo Andrić tells a story about constructing a bridge over river Drina in Višegrad. The bridge itself represents a contrast to human destiny which is transient compared to the stone construction which lasts for eternity. Bridge is a motif around which Andrić weaves a story about a place and culture, simultaneously revealing history of people and destinies of individuals in a small town, in span of four centuries.
